Who: Marlison, Ang and a handful of familiar PYC faces and new yogis attended Leandra’s 75 minute morning class. Leandra, a rockstar yogi, is the Co-Owner of PYC Etobicoke, our Ambassador at lululemon Sherway Gardens, and a past educator to boot! (She is someone you definitely want to get know!) A passionate teacher, athlete and friend, Leandra inspires you to be your best on and off the mat!
What: Power Yoga 75 with Leandra
This hot vinyasa class will bring you through a flow of sun salutations (A & B), sitting and standing poses, openers & back bends, ending with a period of meditation. The class is fun and full of energy as everyone is focused on deepening their practice or mastering that challenging pose (cough cough handstand). Leandra encourages doing things at your own pace and level, while also pushing you to go deeper and step out of your comfort zone. With the addition of music to assist our flow, Leandra takes time to personally assist and adjust students in their poses.
Wore: Alison sported the barely-there, uber-lightweight Practice Freely Tank and classic Wunder Under Crops - her crop of choice for hot yoga! She kept her hair and sweat in check with her favorite Bang Buster Headband. Alison got down on the Towel Mat, a fusion between a microfiber towel and rubber mat, which keeps her hands from slipping during downward dog and is safe for the washing machine, too!
Marlene kept cool in the airy No Limits Tank, one of her favourite tanks to wear in and out of class, and gave her legs room to breathe in the Boogie Short. She set her intention on The Mat. The great thing about this mat is that there is no need to bring a towel along, because it has a polyurethane coating that soaks up sweat and prevents slipping!
When: Leandra teaches a variety of yoga classes in the morning, afternoon and evening. Check out PYC Etobicoke's schedule for more details on a particular class, date or time.
Why Power Yoga:
It's relaxing. It's energizing. It's strengthening. With power yoga you’re guaranteed to feel better at the end of a practice than before you began. Yoga is designed to make you feel great in your body, mind and soul: each practice focuses on strengthening and opening the body, breathing from the soul, and setting an intention in the mind and the heart. By removing limitations and providing clarity, you will leave with more than just a sweaty mat, but rather peace of mind, better health and a greater enthusiasm for life.
Hot yoga is great because it helps students to sweat out toxins while allowing them to safely enter deeper poses or stretches. And take it from Alison when she says that you will never experience a sweat like a hot yoga class - she thought a three-hour hockey practice (without pucks!) was the sweatiest it could get, until she stepped into a yoga studio with the heat turned up to 105ºF!

Still Skeptical?
- Not the biggest fan of yoga? Neither is Marlene - she would much rather be doing a strength training class than stretching it out. Power yoga is great though, because it is that it is more fast-paced than a typical yoga class and challenges you to try more advanced poses. She was amazed by how fast the class flew by and wouldn't mind catching another 75 minute class one day!
- Yoga is for everyone! Are you a gumby? Can you barely touch your toes? Do you love the burn of “utkatasana”? Or Is “utkatasana” just gibberish to you? Perfect, you’ll fit right in! At PYC you’ll meet girls and guys of all ages and skill levels at each practice. What’s great is that everyone leaves their ego at the door. There are modified positions to suit all levels of experience, and hey, don’t be afraid to take child’s pose or savasana if you need a breather.
- PYC is a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. The PYC community is just as fun as it is supportive, with a sense of camaraderie that you can feel the instant you walk through the door. At PYC, everyone is one big family and they're waiting to welcome you with open arms!
